Epson Perfection V30 Photo Scanner Review

Buy the Epson Perfection V30The Epson Perfection V30 photo scanner is a favorite of beginners. This is mainly because of two things – friendly price and features. At ~$60, it’s one of the cheaper color scanners out there. But for us photo restorers; we’re not really concerned with the price. We’re more concerned about the features and how they’re going to help us preserve our photos. Here’s the million dollar question for this inexpensive product – is it worthy of its “perfection” billing? This Epson V30 review will focus on what it brings to the table. Let’s see what’s under the hood of the Epson V30.

Looking at the features and specifications, there are a lot of great things that jump right at you. The fact that the Epson Perfection V30 boasts of photo restoration in one touch can be handy when you’re in a hurry, even though you get more control doing it manually. The average user though would probably appreciate this. Add that to the fact that the Epson V30 also features fully automatic scanning and we’ll breeze through our workload and still have time to spend some quality time with the family. There’s also the ReadyScanTM LED technology, which claims to be gentle on the environment. Whether that’s true or not you’ll at least get a cheaper electricity bill. Another feature that makes the Epson V30 user-friendly is its one-touch buttons. Press on a button and you’ll be scanning a photo in no time. Is your friend asking for a copy of the picture? Press on another button and the photo will be attached to an email. What if you need to make copies or PDF files? There are one-touch buttons for them as well.

Other Epson V30 Reviews

This product has gotten 126 customer reviews on Amazon with 82 users giving it a perfect 5 rating. That says a lot about its popularity. There’s one Epson V30 review that stood out. It’s the review that said that this is basically a V300 clone which is not a bad thing. However, this model lacks the negative holder which a lot of users find useful. The same review raves about how this flatbed scanner was able to produce “fabulously smooth images” out of a colored ad in a newspaper using 800 dpi. That’s promising considering the fact that the Epson V30 features a 4800 x 9600 dpi optical resolution. It’s safe to say that the user hasn’t unleashed its full potential yet. A majority of the reviews raved about the hardware of this product and it’s easy to see why. However, there are quite a few users who ranted about the software, with one user calling it “nasty”. The user started by praising the unit’s hardware by saying that it’s basic enough for beginners and feature-packed enough for professionals. He also said that the hardware worked perfectly on both PC and Mac. However, he encountered some problems with the ArcSoft software that came with the installation disc. He found them too intrusive and he still hasn’t found a way to uninstall it on the PC. Is the Epson Perfection V30 perfect? No, you can always buy more expensive scanners which will give you higher quality. But with this scanner at under $60 you can’t find another scanner that delivers the same quality at this price.
